When it comes to tough jobs like towing a camper or trailer, a pickup truck is going to deliver the most capability. When it comes time to choose a new pickup truck model, drivers will want to consider the brand, the pickup truck class, and the towing capacity specs. We have included a comparison of the towing capacity specs for four of the most popular pickup truck models from Ford, Chevy, RAM, and Toyota below to give shoppers a quick snapshot of what is available.

Ford vs Chevy vs RAM vs Toyota Pickup Trucks: Towing Capacity

Depending on the trim level, body style, and configuration, the 2019 Toyota Tundra offers drivers a max towing capacity between 6,400-pounds and 10,200-pounds when properly equipped. It’s also the largest and most powerful pickup truck in the Toyota lineup with excellent reliability scores.

The 2019 RAM 1500 is the brand’s entry-level pickup truck option and offers a max towing capacity of up to 6,280-pounds to 7,520-pounds when properly equipped. While these specs are low compared to other models like the Tundra, the RAM lineup offers more powerful configurations like the 2019 RAM 2500 with max towing of up to 15,080-pounds.

Like the RAM 1500, the Chevy Silverado lineup is made up of a variety of configurations that deliver drastically different towing specs. Base Silverado 1500 models offer max towing of up to 12,200-pounds when properly equipped. The 2019 Silverado 3500 HD is the most powerful with a towing capacity of up to 23,100-pounds when properly equipped.

The 2019 Ford F-150 offers the lowest towing capacity specs of the four pickup trucks mentioned here with max towing of between 5,000-pounds to 8,000-pounds depending on trim level. However, like the RAM 1500 and the Chevy Silverado, the Ford F-150 is the entry-level model for Ford and larger and more-powerful models are available with much higher towing figures.
